Legal status On May 25, 2006 were eventually convicted Kenneth Lay, Enron chairman and Jeffrey Skilling, its former chief executive, conspiracy to commit fraud. The jury of 12 people found Lay guilty of all six counts against him, while considered that Skilling, who succeeded him as president of the company is guilty of conspiracy and fraud. Lay and Skilling faced six to 28 counts of conspiracy, fraud and financial maneuvers to hide losses and overstate the benefits of Enron, in order to attract money from investors. Brad Powers On July 5, 2006, as a result of heart problems, died in Aspen (Colorado) Kenneth Lay, 64, who risked a penalty of up to 45 years in prison for his involvement in financial fraud. Finally, on October 23, 2006 Jeffrey Skilling was sentenced to 24 years in prison after being convicted of 19 counts in his management for less than a year in the company and have given up just four months before bankruptcy.
